The Enlightenment has resulted in massive improvements to the general condition of humankind, but it has also resulted in a subtle shift in worldview that in some ways has pulled the metaphysical foundation out from under what was known as Christendom. Join Janel, Ryan, Nate, Paul, Christina & Rob in Episode 96 of the Brew Theology Podcast: "Zombie Worldview!" (Part 1 of 2)

The modern idea of Human Rights has indeed transformed the world and it seems appropriate and necessary to appreciate that the Hindu literature at least 5,000 – 7,000 years ago embodied that idea. We have the great honor to deliver these brewtastic audio goods as *Ved P. Nanda joins the 95th Brew Theology Podcast! We begin by hearing Ved's amazing life-story, then move onto aspects of Hinduism, weed out some misconceptions, dive into human rights, and even tackle sexuality and the Karma Sutra, etc.!

Episode 93: "On The Mystery" with Dr. Catherine Keller - Part 2
Monday Aug 06, 2018
Monday Aug 06, 2018
Who's ready for Part 2 with Dr. Catherine Keller? Keller is Professor of Constructive Theology at the Theological School and Graduate School at Drew University, joins Brew Theology for a LIVE pub conversation in New Jersey regarding her book, "On the Mystery: Discerning Divinity in Process." Nate Nakao and Luke Grote from Jersey Brew Theology host this 93rd episode of the Brew Theology Podcast (Part 2 of 2). Here's a desciption of her book, below (although, the questions at the pub go in many directions in this multi-podcast event.).
"With immediate impact and deep creativity, Catherine Keller offers this brief and unconventional introduction to theological thinking, especially as recast by process thought. Keller takes up theology itself as a quest for religious authenticity. Through a marvelous combination of brilliant writing, story, reflection, and unabashed questioning of old shibboleths, Keller redeems theology from its dry and predictable categories to reveal what has always been at the heart of the theological enterprise: a personal search for intellectually honest and credible ways of making sense of the loving mystery that encompasses even our confounding times."

Episode 89: Homelessness with Terese Howard and Benjamin Dunning - Part 2
Saturday Jul 07, 2018
Saturday Jul 07, 2018
Part Two!!!
"Homelessness & the Free Haircut"... with Benjamin Dunning and Terese Howard, co-founders of Denver Homeless Out Loud, are brewing some relevant goodness on episode 88 (part 2 of 2). Benjamin and Terese talk about homelessness in the Mile High City. They discuss ways in which society "helps" the homeless, and how these acts of service so often do not address real, pressing needs. What good is a free haircut when the real jobs and the affordable homes are mostly unattainable? Benjamin and Terese speak about the difference between a meal for a day and a well paying job. Nobody brings jobs to the homeless community, but you can find a lot of job training programs for jobs that don't pay well. So what does this mean regarding our compassion towards each other when we bring aid that does not address real needs? And how can we identify real needs and truly meet them? The answers are pretty simple, and yet most Americans don't think about the healthier ways to tangibly help the poorest of poor in our country.

Episode 87: Exploring Paradox in the Religious & Secular World - Part 2
Tuesday Jun 19, 2018
Tuesday Jun 19, 2018
Ready for Part 2?!
“Next to a church profaned by its exclusion of otherness, a city of true diversity is a cathedral. Next to a Christian eclipsed by theological arrogance, an honest atheist shines like the sun". Quaker author Parker Palmer in his book, The Promise of Paradox, asks What sometimes causes such arrogance in a religion (Christianity) named for one who proclaimed, the meek shall inherit the earth? It is not unusual for discouraged or defeated modern Christians to look for light in the secular world when their Christian church community twists theology into dark esclusivity. Rob Carroll, Leah Brite & Matthieu Caldwell join Janel and Ryan in this discussion (part 2 of 2). Ryan's mother, Nancy Miller, joins the podcast as well. We'll discuss paradoxes in religion and the secular world which help those of us "searching" find more transcendent truth in our lives. Let's brew!
