We are gearing up for another year at the Wild Goose Festival in Hot Springs, NC. Here's some fun convos Janel and Ryan had last year, 2018, with friends (theologians and practitioners including Paula Williams, Sara Cunningham Bart Patton, Tripp Fuller, David Finnegan-Hosey, Joerg Rieger, The Bible Bitches, etc.!) who are doing cool stuff in our world. You'll hear both the worst theology impressed upon people along with theology that gives them hope! Enjoy. Plus, Tripp Fuller from Homebrewed Christianity and Ryan talk about their love for one another and their NBA year-round connection. We hope to see at at the Goose this week.

Get excited for round 2 with Rev. Brother Mark Donato on episode 127 (part 2).
Gnosticism is the teaching based on Gnosis, the knowledge of transcendence arrived at by way of interior, intuitive means. Although Gnosticism thus rests on personal religious experience, it is a mistake to assume all such experience results in Gnostic recognitions. It is nearer the truth to say that Gnosticism expresses a specific religious experience, an experience that does not lend itself to the language of theology or philosophy, but which is instead closely affinitized to, and expresses itself through, the medium of myth. Indeed, one finds that most Gnostic scriptures take the forms of myths. The term “myth” should not here be taken to mean “stories that are not true”, but rather, that the truths embodied in these myths are of a different order from the dogmas of theology or the statements of philosophy.

*Rev. Donato is the prior (administrator and mentor) of the Oblates (lay monks) of the Order of Saint John, the monastic side of the Apostolic Johannite Church. He left the Episcopal Church he grew up in for Buddhism, first Tibetan and later Thai Theravada, for 20 years. Although Buddhism still informs much of Mark’s theology and practice, he moved toward his Christian roots and found Gnosticism. For the past 8 years, Mark has been studying and practicing Gnostic Christianity and was ordained as prior of religious orders in 2016.

Get hopped up for Rev. Brother Mark Donato on episode 126 (part 1). Let's brew up some Gnosis!

Tune in for some more Deep Ecumenism with Rabbi Stephen Booth Nadav in this 2-part Brew Theology Podcast. Deep Ecumenism, a term coined by Fr. Matthew Fox and carried forward by his friend Rabbi Zalman Schachter-Shalomi (z’l), is so much more than “interfaith dialogue.” “Dialogue” is good and nice, and perhaps so much safer than deep engagement or encounter with another faith path. But today we are called to more than just tolerance or positive relationship or even understanding. We are called to stretch to the possible experience of the Divine even in other faith traditions. When we can do that, we will know we have touched the Source.
This is the 2nd time for Rabbi Steve to join the BT community. He was with us back in 2016 (episodes 17 & 18 of the Brew Theology Podcasts), and we look forward to having him again...
